START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 11/11/02 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at the Sweetwater Café by President Mark Bradler at 7:02 P.M. The minutes of the last meeting (October 14, 2002), as appearing in the

November 2002 newsletter, were approved. President - Proposed changes to the Constitution and/or By-Laws. D. Lon Downing's and Secretary Lear's proposals were distributed to members

attending the meeting.

President - MGySgt David Miller brought some guest from the NRA Junior Shooters program to address the club and answer any questions. David

introduced the guest and brought the club members up to date on future shoots. A 12 day national shoot will be held at Ashley High School next

year. A regional shoot, like this year, will again be held in Wilmington in 2003. Volunteers are needed. David wants to have a David Miller Challenge

which will be described in a future newsletter. Guest H. Q. Moody, coach for the National Junior Shooters, related that NRA had 150 to 200 training

classes/programs for youngsters 14 to 20 years of age all over the US. NRA had Daisy BB Gun Matches last year which resulted in the largest junior

shooting event in the US. The events are a 3 and 4 position shoot in which the single shot is muzzle loaded and then shot at the target which is 16 feet

away.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Skeet David Merrill advised there were 10 shooters at the match and cookout. Ray Campbell had the HOA with 49.

Action Pistol Ray Campbell advised they had a good informal match with 8 shooters. One shooter was from Kinston and a couple were non-members. They

shot the moving target and falling plates.

Training Vice President Tom advised that 3 members have asked for a Conceal Carry Course. Harold and Tom will run the course once there is an

agreement on a date to conduct the course.

Planning Bill Murrell advised he is to meet with a contractor to get some cost amounts to replace the shooting line sheds. Hopefully bid amounts

will be available at the next meeting. Discussion.

Cowboy Ray Campbell stated the last shoot was written up in the newsletter.

OLD BUSINESS:

Don Sloop The Brunswick County Green Wings shoot had 15 shooters. A good shoot. The club can expect 2 request from Boy Scouts of America Troops

in Brunswick County next year. Nothing has been done regarding the burned trees but hopefully it will get done in December. A question regarding insurance came up and will

be worked out. A club member has volunteered his services as a heavy equipment operator. Discussion.

President Some members are calling him looking to perform workdays.

NEW BUSINESS:

Don Sloop As the Registered Agent of the Club he received a letter from the state regulators regarding a free seminar to discuss lead control at

shooting ranges. He would like to attend, at no cost to the club, to see the programs regarding lead control. The seminar will be on Tuesday, November

19th. Fred Welfare motioned, 2nd by Bill Murrell, that Don attend the meeting representing the Buccaneer Gun Club. Discussion. Motion: Passed

Tom Morgan wants to reserve both skeet fields for Thursday, February 6, 2003 from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. for a shoot by the NC Society of

Surveyors attending their convention. Tom will collect the fees and run the shoot. No Opposition.

David Merrill Five prints have been offered to the club for display at the clubhouse. They came via Steve Banks and were originally owned by Frank

Greer. David motioned, Don Sloop 2nd, that the club accept the donation and put them up in the clubhouse. Discussion. Motion: Passed

Bill Murrell He is looking for sponsors for the Jr. World Skeet Championship Shoot. A sponsorship would cover 5 years and $1000.00 is being

requested of corporate sponsors. The club could not do that however any amount would be appreciated if the club became a sponsor. Corporate sponsors

get a legal tax deduction as it is a NSSA sponsored event. Discussion. He will bring this back up at the next meeting for input.

John Scott He received no responses to his proposed 5 man team skeet and trap shoot the details of which appeared in the November newsletter.

ATTENDANCE: 23 which included 2 Probationary Members and 4 guest.

MISPLACED ELECTRONIC EAR PROTECTORS: (Editor/Secretary) Tom Morrison advised he left his grey colored Peltor electronic ear

protectors at the club when he was last there. If you found his ear protectors would you please call Tom at 799-4987.

NOVEMBER COWBOY MATCH: (Ray Campbell)

HeadLine: Beware of Cowboy Transvestite Bearing Gift It had been a quiet evening at the Hardtimes Saloon until this luscious young thing named Sue came in 

carrying a fresh baked styrofoam pie. She asked if any of the cowboys would like a "Piece" and was approached by Carbine Kidd

who evidently made some type of off color remark about her pie. Well in no time flat she produced two six shooters from under her apron and proceeded to

clean out the saloon. After ten pistol shots, two shotgun rounds, and ten rifle shells there were no more lewd remarks concerning her pie. Sheriff

Holliday was quick on the scene and promptly made an arrest and took Sue to the slammer. Before putting Sue behind bars the good sheriff made a thorough

search of the lady and determined that this was the "Boy Named Sue" that Johnny Cash used to sing about.......

HeadLine: Gunfight Erupts During Church Horseshoe Match The Reverend U.B. Goode, pastor of the Regulator First Holiness AME Zion

Catholic Presbyterian Church was halfway through his turn of four horseshoes when a gunfight broke out between warring factions in the church (Tough

Congregation Huh). Since he was in the lead in the horseshoe match his concentration could not be broken by a small thing like bullets flying around

in the church yard. He kept his cool and managed to put two ringers on the post before drawing his guns. After emptying two pistols and a double barrel

shotgun the problem members of the congregation had been excommunicated (Permanently). Scores in the horseshoe throwing part of this stage were

better than expected since we were using real horseshoes as opposed to the dime store game variety.....hell, when I got them from Silverado they still

had the nails in them........

Scores for the twelve shooters were good and I'm noticing that no one seems to be running away with the matches as the scores are tightening up. I think

someone must be practicing. As has been the case in the past we managed to screw up the awards ceremony and gave Idaho Spud the top gun prize in the 

Senior Division when it should gone to Roberdale. Roberdale was so irritated that he saddled up and managed to leave his rifle and shotgun in the rack. Sheriff 

Holliday locked them up for safe keeping until Roberdale cools off. 

Scores went as follows:

Seniors--Roberdale, Idaho Spud, Doc Clock, Tom Two Feathers, Blacksmith, Tom

Two Times.

First Flight; Dick Holliday, Mad Dog, Deacon Dave.

Second Flight: Colonel Case Hardin, Carbine Kidd, Silverado

We had a good time at the fracas and as we only had twelve shooters we took time for a two man team event. We drew numbers and paired off for a little

team on team shooting. I can't remember who won but it was still fun. This was the last match of the year so look to be with us the third Saturday each

month in 2003. We're still trading around equipment and such so everyone will have everything they need so if you don't have quite all the toys you

should still come out and we'll help with the rest. We still are looking for juniors to shoot with us and most of all we need some Cowgirls. We have

three Cowgirls that shoot with us occasionally but never have they all been there the same day. By the way ladies I've made some allowances concerning

the dreaded "Shotgun" and no Cowgirls showed up so you'll just have to wonder what they were or will be next year........

Thanks to all who helped us set up and run the matches this past year and

most of all thanks to those who participated. So we'll see you next

year......and as always........Take a kid shooting........Ned Bluntline
