MESSAGE FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT: (Tom McGonigal)
Thanks to Bill Murrell, Ray Campbell, Fred Welfare, John Scott, Jack Flack, Tom
Mix, and Don Sloop for conducting a combined shooting familiarization event on
May 29 for 10 Jr NROTC students from North Brunswick High School. The event was
organized and coordinated thru Complimentary Member MGy Sgt David Miller.
NO MEETING ON JUNE 10TH: (Secretary Dale Lear)
Due to the lack of a quorum there was no meeting. Our By-Laws state
"A quorum shall consist of five percent of the membership, with a minimum
of twelve members present." Come on members - Only 9 members plus MGy
Sgt David Miller showed up at the clubhouse. This is your club – YOUR
ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN RUNNING THE CLUB IS NEEDED!!!
NON-MEETING INFORMATION:
MGy Sgt David Miller provided The Hoggard Challenge to those at the non-meeting.
We need 4 volunteers for the challenge to be held on August 12th at 3:00 P.M. at
the club. If you want to participate call David between 8 AM and 3 PM at
350-2072 Ext. 257 or call him at his residence - 452-3416. A copy of The
Hoggard Challenge is part of the newsletter. See The Hoggard Challenge on

Due to an misunderstanding during the planning of the 2002 North Carolina
Civilian Marksmanship Program, Three Position Air Rifle Camp, to be held at UNCW
from July 22 to July 27, 2002 there has been a serious monetary shortfall.
Two monetary numbers verbally provided by UNCW were to be added together to get
the cost for the participants room and board at UNCW. The number were not
added together and so the announcement for the camp stated student participants
cost would be $80.00 each. However, it will be much more. MGy Sgt
Miller is hopeful that the BGC will come up with at least a $2000.00 donation to
help defray the actual cost. The students have come up with their $80.00
but he feels it is to much to ask them to come up with double that amount.
He checked with NRA and they are not able to advance money for this however next
year they will receive money from the Friends of the NRA. SEE YOU AT
THE JULY MEETING SO THIS CAN BE DISCUSSED AND MOTIONS MADE/VOTED ON!!!
MGy Sgt Miller advised that because BGC members have and do participate in the
teaching of Jr. NROTC students our members are considered ad hoc
affiliates (adult leaders) by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Members
will therefore be able to obtain some ammunition at a really low cost.
Examples are $93 per 6500 rounds of Federal 22 cal. and 30 cal. rounds at 10
cents apiece.
Sholar Powell advised that Bill Beadling of the Outer Banks Gun Club is still
interested in a joint shoot with members of the BGC. Those at the
non-meeting agreed that it will be an "All Around Shoot" involving
shooting 25 rounds each in the pistol, rifle and shotgun events.

FRIENDS OF THE NRA - 2002 EVENT INFORMATION: (Ray Campbell)
The Friends of NRA event for 2002 is planned for Saturday September 14 at the
Elks Club at 5102 Oleander Dr. here in Wilmington. We've finally decided to try
having this fun filled dinner and auction on the weekend. As you remember we've
always had the event during the week but many of you wanted to have it on a day
that you didn't have to go to work the next day so here's your opportunity.
Advance tickets will be available by calling Ray Campbell at 686-7339 or
520-4822. Individual tickets are $25.00 just like last year. You will probably
remember that we also have sponsor packages that are $225.00. The Sponsor
Package includes two tickets, a limited edition sponsor hat, and new this year
is an NRA Minuteman Sculpture which would be a real addition to any den or
office. It stands about 15 inches high and is on a wood base. I plan to have one
of them on display at Shooters Choice on Gordon Road. If you haven't been by to
see the new indoor range it should give you an excuse. Sponsors are always
included in a Sponsor only drawing for more guns.
Advance ticket sales is important to both you and I because we use the number of
advance tickets to help us figure out how many extra guns we need to buy. In the
past we have purchased more guns to increase our chances of winning one. As last
year there will be one gun given away as a door prize. So your $25.00 ticket
purchase could win you a gun.
This years event is still developing and I'll keep you updated but we still plan
to have the same auctioneer and the same good food........
Almost forgot--We need workers and committee members to help sell tickets so if
you work with a bunch of folks that share the same interests as you then make
sure they get a ticket. Call me to get on board.........thanks........Ray

"Tom Two Times"
Ambushed in Outhouse
"Tom Two Times" had just gotten settled down for a rest in his new
outhouse. After all the problems with Native Americans trying to take their land
back, he equipped it with any eventuality in mind which included picture windows
on the sides and a shooting port in the door. It seems like the Natives didn't
appreciate him building his outhouse on their burial grounds. Tom had just
gotten past the first few pages of his new Colt Catalog when an arrow whizzed by
his head. The arrow went in one window and out the other. Since his pants and
holsters would be around his knees he had built holsters in the walls to hold
his two six shooters while he was indisposed. He drew his first pistol and
dispatched the five braves on the left and drew the other to send five more on
the right to the Happy Hunting Grounds. He peered out the port in the front door
only to see two more coming toward the door with torches to set his roost on
fire. Two shoots from the double barrel changed their minds (Permanently). Off
in the distance he could see five Chiefs on horses which were directing the
action. Fortunately Tom's outhouse equipment included a long range rifle which
he put to good use on the Chiefs. Tom is thinking about relocating to town if
the problems continue......
Stage two above was originally to be called "War Wagon" but when the
posse voted and it was agreed that Match Director Holliday's construction of a
stage coach looked more like an outhouse than a stage coach then the name was
changed.....
The June posse was attended by 14 cowboys and one cowgirl......Seems like we've
been having one cowgirl make the scene for the last few matches. It's been a
different cowgirl each time. What we need is for them all to show up on the same
day so we can have a real cowgirl shootout.
"Doc Clock" our resident cowboy timekeeper had to leave before the
match was completed so the scores may be somewhat suspect as Dick Holliday took
over the score keeping and we suspect that he had been in the Old Crow Mouth
Wash again....His ciphering skills are questionable when he is sober....Dick
said that it helped his cough....

All posse members were awarded hanker chiefs for showing up.
COOKOUT AT THE JULY MATCH.....Idaho Spud came up the idea of feeding the Posse
members and their guests at the July match so if you'll let us know for sure
you're coming we'll know how many yard birds to cook...The match is scheduled
for July 27 at 9:00 AM with lunch to follow......If you need directions to our
