ATTENTION SHOOTERS: (Vice President)

Please do not place targets on the base supports of the target frames at the Cowboy/Plinking berm.  They are being shot to pieces and will not be in a state of constant repair as it is very expensive and time consuming.  Its more fun to shoot than making repairs which could have been avoided.  If you are going to shoot the bottles, snakes etc shoot them on the ground in front of the berm and please put them back when you are done.

TRAINING:  (Harold Lange)

The Training group is planning to offer a N.R.A. Basic Pistol Course, at the gun club, on Thursday June 6 and Saturday June 8. The Thursday session will start promptly at 6:00 P.M. and last to around 10:00 P.M.  The Saturday session will start promptly at 8: 00 A.M. and last until finished which should be around 4:00 P.M.   Anyone interested in obtaining a Concealed Carry Permit must attend this course first.  Depending on the length of the Pistol course a Concealed Carry course may be offered at the end of the Pistol course or another agreed to date will be picked.  If there are any questions please call Harold Lange (791-6232), Tom Repik (686-2526) or Tom McGonigal (392-7156).

BUCCANEER BULK LEAD BULLET ORDER: (Ray Campbell)

The orders will be ready for pick up at the club store, W. H. McEachern's & Sons, 121 Front Street, commencing Wednesday, May 8th.  .

START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for 4/8/02 Meeting
The meeting was called to order at the Sweetwater Café by Vice President McGonigal at 7:08 P.M. 

The minutes of the March 11, 2002 meeting, as appearing in the newsletter, were approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Skeet Fred Welfare advise there were 21 shooters at the March Wind Open (MWO) and 69 guns were shot.  They had a 3 way 12 ga. shoot off (99s) plus a 20 ga. shoot off.  There was only one 100 score and that was a 410 shooter.  It was the first MWO shoot for 8 individuals at the match.  We barely broke even as the cost were over $1000.00.

Action Pistol First match is the 4th Sunday in April - the 28th. 

Training There will be a Basic Pistol Course (BPC) given at the club in June.  On Thursday, June 6 the course will start at 6:00 P.M. and will got to 10:00 P.M.  On Saturday, June 8 the course will start at 8:00 A.M. and will go until finished.  A Concealed Carry Course (CCC) will be offered after the BPC if the BPC finishes early.  If not, an agreed upon date will be set for the CCC.  The BPC will cost $15.00 per person and the CCC will cost $50.00 per person.

Cowboy They had 9 or 10 shooters and they had a good time. 

TREASURER'S REPORT:  (Vice President -Treasurer is in FL)

OLD BUSINESS:

Vice President George Houghton has provided an electric bell which will be hooked up with the lights for the down range warning system.

Regarding new shelters.  Don Sloop advised that a double car carport can be put up at a cost of $595.00 each plus tax.  They usually cost $695.00.  We can have 3 put up for just over $1800.00.  They are 21' x 18' and the roof edge starts abut 4' off the ground; they have a 20 year guarantee against rust; they are guaranteed to withstand winds up to 120 miles per hour; they are open sided; and you pay 10% upon ordering and the balance at the time of completion.  Discussion.  Bill Murrell motioned, seconded by George Houghton, that the club purchase 3.  Motion: Passed with no objection. 

We have not had anyone offer to donate a TV and VCR to the club.  Discussion.  Gene Gregg advised he will donate a Magnavox, possibly a 19" screen, TV.   Harold Lange will check out, and purchase for a cost of up to $120.00, a VCR suitable for use by the training group.

The microwave, 1st Aid Kit and fire extinguisher, which were stolen, have been replaced.

This will be the last meeting here at Sweetwater Café and the meeting next month and through October will be at the club. 

Constitution and By-Laws Committee needs more input from club members.  A draft of some changes have been issued to the committee.  Bill Murrell will provide a copy of the Constitution and By-Laws of another large NC club.

Don Sloop The Brunswick County Ducks Unlimited will hold the Green Wings shoot here at the club on 4/27.  The use of one skeet range was previously approved by the club members.

NEW BUSINESS:

Ron Hearn A security system of some sort at the club.  Discussion.  This does not appear to be feasible.  Harold Lange stated he will use his engraver to engrave the clubs name in a conspicuous place on those items likely to be stolen. 

David Miller Reported on the Junior 3 Position Shoot held 2 weeks ago.  Hoggard High School took the Gold, Silver and Bronze. 73 students from 5 NC counties took part. 

He belongs to the Marine Corps League and has been appointed to see if a Scholarship Fund to reward young shooters is feasible.  This would be a $500.00 or $600.00 Scholarship given each year to college students who were shooters in New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender and Columbus Counties.  David will draft up the information he gathers and will bring it back before the club.

Don Sloop Club members involved in the Junior 3 Position Shoot were impressed with the good shooting they observed. 

Fred Edgecome Fred is the NRA State Representative and he presented the club an award in the form of a plaque.  "This is a brand new program and I'm proud to award this to your club."   This is a Platinum Award and will be awarded yearly.  It is awarded on such things as: a clubs performance in such areas as 100% NRA membership, membership in the state associations, a newsletter, incorporation of and support of young shooters in club activities and membership participation. 

Bill Murrell He will put a photograph of the plaque on the club web site.

Sholar Powell A pair of binoculars and ammo carrier were left at the club.  Call Sholar at 795-5430 to identify and claim.  The Secretary advised there was no response to the E-mail he forwarded to club members about these misplaced items..

Vice President Instructors are needed to assist in the Basic Pistol and Concealed Carry Courses.  Let the Vice President, Harold Lange, or Tom Repik know as soon as possible of your availability.  

Ray Campbell The lead bullet orders are coming in and we will probably order over 200,000 bullets.

Bill Murrell There will be a skeet shoot in Durham next week.

Headline: Sheriff Foils Boot Hill Ambush

Sheriff Johnson had not kept it a secret that he was going to visit the grave of the recently ambushed deputy Fiffe. He was hoping the Dickweed Pelling gang that he suspected of ambushing the Deputy, would try to finish the job of doing away with the Sheriffs Office in Regulatorville. It was about dark on Saturday when he entered Boot Hill. The hair on the back of this neck was tingling so he was pretty sure the Pelling Gang was lying in wait. He heard a leaf crunch from behind a nearby tombstone. Seeing nothing he quickly drew his 44 and fired a round at a nearby tombstone which ricocheted behind the tombstone he was worrying about. The bullet struck Dickweed Pelling behind the right ear and took him out of the fight. The Sheriff ducked behind a nearby grave marker and reloaded the single round he just fired. Just in time as it turned out as the rest of the Pelling Gang popped up and started shooting. The Sheriff came well prepared for the fight as evidenced by the empty pistol, rifle. and shotgun shells on the ground. When the smoke cleared, Pelling and 15 members of his gang lay ready for the undertaker.

The above was stage one of five stages at our match. Gunsmoke Morrison's wife Missalot Missy Morrison was also shooting the match . After Gunsmoke told her his secrets for shooting the stage she shot it with no misses. The stage required the shooter to bounce the first round off the tombstone and try to hit the cowboy which was close by with the same bullet. Probably half of the fifteen cowboys and cowgirl in the posse got credit for the bonus by bouncing the round into the cowboy......We only had one cowboy that did not even hit the tombstone.....you guessed it--Gunsmoke Morrison. We hate it when that happens although it sure was funny at the time. Gunsmoke recovered well and came in second in the match.

Scores went like this:
First Flight:  Dick W. Holliday, Gunsmoke, Mad Dog, Little Mix and Wishbone.
Second Flight:  Deacon Dave, Duplin Kid, Slow Hand, Lonesome Larry, Killer Karl.
Seniors Flight:  Roberdale, Idaho Spud, Dock Clock, Tom Two Feathers.
Ladies Flight:  Missalot Missy (She needs to change her handle as I'm pretty sure she had the fewest missed shots of anybody in the posses.)

We had fifteen shooters at the April fracas and I'm pretty sure everybody had a good time. Except maybe Doc Clock who's rifle was gone after the smoke cleared from the match. Someone left a nicer rifle but Doc was kinda partial to his. A special thanks to our blacksmith "Pounder Pate" for pounding out the new steel we shot in the match. Also a special thank you to Burton Steel who supplies the steel. We still need more lady shooters to keep Missalot Morrison with some competition and also some junior shooters. We had a couple of new shooters by the names of "Killer Karl" Busick and "Tom Two Feathers" Fisk. Welcome to the Buccaneer Range Regulators.

There are one or two openings available in the Bucknuts deer hunt club in Brunswick County.  Still hunting only, with a very successful Quality deer management program.  Contact Chris Lastinger - home 270 4255 (sorry about wrong number last issue) and cell 512 2901.

NO LOADED CONCEALED WEAPONS ARE TO BE CARRIED TO THE FIRING LINE AS WE ARE A COLD RANGE CLUB.

PLEASE - DO NOT SHOOT CENTER FIRE RIFLES AT SILHOUETTE TARGETS NOR ANY FIREARM AT THE ACTION PISTOL BARRICADES ON WHICH ARE SIGNS STATING "DO NOT SHOOT BARRICADES."
