START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 4/14/03 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at the Sweetwater Café by President John Scott at 7:00 P.M.

The minutes of the last meeting (March 10, 2003), as appearing in the newsletter, were accepted.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Skeet John Scott advised they had 12 shooters at the match.  He read the class scores.

Silhouette Tom advised only 2 showed up for the shoot and 3 guns were shot.  It took longer to set up than it took to shoot the match.  

Cowboy Tom Mix advised the shoot, as per the calendar, will be held Saturday starting at 9:00 AM.

Training Harold advised that 2 weeks ago 2 people took the Conceal Carry Course.  Nothing is scheduled however if someone expresses interest they will run an appropriate course.  A Boy Scout Troop wants to come to the club but a time and date has not yet been set.


OLD BUSINESS:

Jon Mix They had 9 shooters at the "Club All Around."  They had lots to eat.  1st Place went to Ricky Wright.  2nd Place went to Jon.  3rd Place went to David Ernest.

Fred Welfare They had 22 shooters with 61 guns being shot at the March Winds Open.  John Scott and Bill Murrell (high over all) took the honors.

President The Yahweh Center Children's Village Fun Shoot had the largest number of shooters ever with 180 some participating.  It was a financial success and our club was well represented.

Treasurer Asked for an update about the roofing of the clubhouse.  Discussion.  President John advised a date of May 8 has been set for the work by Dave Nance and 8 other club members. 

Sholar Powell Tonight is the cut off for clothing orders.

NEW BUSINESS:

Sholar Powell The 2nd Annual Shoot between Hoggard's NJROTC's team and BCG members will be held in June.  More BGC members need to get involved.  This is an open sight .22 cal. shoot with an American made rifle.  The Hoggard team shot match rifles last time and the BGC team shot with what they had which may have explained the results.  MGySgt David Miller is bringing a team of 4 people from Hoggard.  Sholar is running the shoot so if interested contact Sholar (799-5438 or E-mail at powellsh1@earthlink.net). 

Don Sloop The tax valuation is out and he will check, if the club would like,  with a forester to see if our unused land might be classified as a tree farm.  Discussion.

MGySgt David Miller would like to have another Hoggard JROTC shoot at the club.  No date has been set but a Thursday in April or May would be best.  David would like to get Ashley's JROTC involved in the shoot.  They will have no more than 25 shooters.  Ray Campbell, John Scott and Bill Murrell will help with the shoot.  No objection.

Vice President The next work day is Saturday, May 3rd.  He needs input as to what projects need to be done.  Discussion.

Secretary Read Mike English's request for the BSA to use the club on May 3rd.  Discussion.  Work day workers  will work around the Scouts.  No objection.

Bill Murrell Offered to put down rock on the road coming in plus the roads on the club property if the club pays for the rock.  Discussion.  They get 22 tons of rock on a truck.  Rock cost $5 or $6 a ton but even at $7 it would only cost about $150 per truck load.  Harold Lange motioned that the club pay up to $500.00 for rock for the roads.  Bill interjected that he thought the amount should be up to $1000.00.  Harold withdrew his Motion.  Bill made the motion, 2nd by Jon Mix, that the club pay up to $1000.00 for rock to be used, as required, on the entrance road and club roads.  Motion: Passed.

Tom Mix We need 10 or 12 new metal chairs for the bench rest and silhouette ranges.  The old chairs have disappeared.  Bill Murrell motioned, 2nd by Jon Mix,  that the club spend up to $150.00 for metal chairs for the rifle shed area.  Motion: Passed.

President Provided a copy of the April issue of the NC Sportsman, which contained an article by member Mike Marsh, so interested members could read Mike's article.  Discussion.

ATTENDANCE: 19 which included 3 Probationary Members.

Received a call from Queensboro and the ordered clothing ought to be in and  ready for pick up at the May club meeting.

BUCCANEER BULK LEAD BULLET ORDER: (Editor)

Ray Campbell is putting together a bulk purchase of Valiant Bullets.  Some of the prices are:  45 cal. 200 gr. -  $25.00 per thousand; 45 cal. 250 gr. RNFD - $29.00 per thousand; 44 cal. 240 gr. - $27.00 per thousand; and 38 cal. 158 gr. - $21.00 per thousand.  If you are interested call Ray Campbell at 520-4822 or 686-7339.  Payment in advance will be required as we have to send a check with the order.

APRIL NRA ACTION PISTOL: (Sholar Powell)

We had good turnout and great weather for the first match of the year.  Seven shooters piled on to shoot all three matches.  Dan Lichty was on the verge of forcing a shoot-off with Ray Campbell in Falling Plate, but had a procedural that did him in.  John Gallagher had a good match, and took two events, and Gehrig Austin swept his three classes.  Good to see Dan Montgomery out again shooting with us, and even got Tom Morrison off the skeet field for a turn at the handgun game.  Next match is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, so come on out and shoot with us at 12:00 noon that day.

HeadLine:  Missing Easter Eggs Found At April Shootout......

The Easter Bunny didn't leave much for the kids at Mad Dog's Cabin or so they thought. But had the kids gone to the April Posse they would have seen their treats being put to good use. We were short of props at the match so Mad Dog volunteered the Easter Eggs for a couple of stages. Stage one involved three eggs per shooter and the State Farm Spittoon. Prior to shooting any targets the competitor was required to spit three eggs at the spittoon. If any egg went in, he or she could quit spitt'n and start shoot'n. Having tried such stages before, the match director had the spittoon out of range for most all except the more experienced spitters. If my memory is correct, only Tom Two Feathers was able to put one in. Cowboy Lou of the Flatwoods Badlanders thought he put one in but it bounced out just as he started shooting. Cowgirl Slowhand refused to put the eggs in her mouth as she was witness to Sheriff Holliday dropping the eggs in the mud and was allowed to throw hers at the spittoon. Mad Dog must have been practicing with the eggs as he won the stage.

HeadLine:  Indian Attack Interrupts Church Easter Egg Hunt......

The Reverend U. B. Goode had just finished hiding the Easter Eggs just outside the wall of the Regulator Fort when an arrow almost sent him to the promise land. If he'd been standing up instead of bending over to hide that last egg he would have been a gonner. Fair is fair but attacking in the middle of the first annual Easter Egg Hunt was more than the Reverend could stand. As we all know, the Reverend is always packing iron and this day was no exception. He sent five to the happy hunting ground from the south end of the fort and then ran to the north end of the fort and dispatched five more. He then went for his 30-30 and got the Chief and his son with some fancy long range shooting. When the smoke cleared from all the Reverends shooting the Easter Egg Hunt was held with no further incident.

As you can see from the above, the fun continues at the Buccaneer Regulators monthly cowboy match. We had 18 shooters at the April Posse and the scores were as follows. We had Cowboy hankerchiefs as prizes and just about everybody around at the final score time got one. We had one left and tried to give it to the Duplin Kid but the pink did not match his outfit so we may make it the first place prize next month.....

Come to think of it we had 18 shooters but 17 were able to finish. It seems that Slowhand was using some primers that he bought from Sheriff Holliday and the quality was suspect as evidenced by only about one in three going off.  Sheriff Holliday was nowhere to be found when Slowhand went back for the money back guarantee that the Sheriff promised.

We need more cowgirls for the May Posse so girls please come and give Slowpoke some competition. Some Junior shooters are always needed because we all know what Ned says.............Take a kid shooting.........Ned Bluntline
