END OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 9/11/07 Meeting.
FROM THE LEGISLATIVE BENCH
From The Legislative Bench... Remember the ole saying, “Know thy enemy”? It is derived from The Art of War by Sun Tzu... “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not your enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
Well, here is a glimpse of the enemy and their position of support (excerpt) for the “bill to improve NICS...” HR 2640 passed in the House and is in the Senate for consideration.

I omitted the pleas for donations to Brady and the links to contact Senators to urge their compliance with Brady’s position.
You are aware of the support from the NRA regarding this very piece of proposed legislation and the opposition from such groups as GOA and GRNC... a kink in the firearms’ community armor. As I have stated previously, I feel the wording needs much improvement... leaves too much to subjectivity. Such legislation is dangerous to our well being and that of the Second Amendment when all is not precise. We can not afford to have sections of this bill vague in its treatment of critical wording such as “DETERMINATION” and “OTHER LEGAL AUTHORITY”... too much leeway.
In the “American Rifleman” magazine, the NRA addressed many of the concerns from the firearms community regarding their (OUR!) stance... not enough for me. The legislation should be nailed down so there is no question of what was intended versus what becomes law!
On guard,
Ron
SEPTEMBER NRA ACTION PISTOL (Sholar Powell): Had a light turnout for a hot, humid match. Kevin Croom shot for the first time, and hope to see him back. Campbell and Pelling traded positions as “bug” and “windshield” with the scores today. Lon Layton also had a good day on the trigger. Next month is our last match of the year, and we’ll have fried chicken and fixins’, so come on out. Winners at this match included:
FALLING PLATE MATCH
Semi-Auto Expert Ray Campbell 370/37x
Pistolero Lon Layton 200/20x
MOVING TARGET MATCH
Semi-Auto Expert Don Pelling 433/9x
Pistolero Lon Layton 264/2x

September 1897
Headline: Lawyer Slowhand Learns About the Three Kick Rule
Crooked
lawyer from back east Slowhand went duck hunting in rural Regulatorville. He
shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into Dick Hollidays field on the other side
of a fence. As Slowhand climbed over the fence, Holliday rode up on his trusty
steed "Big Johnson" and asked him what he was doing.
Slowhand responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going
to retrieve it."
Dick replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."
The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in the United
States and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything
you own."
Dick smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we settle disputes in
Regulatorville. We settle small disagreements like this; with the 'Three Kick
Rule.'"
The lawyer asked, "What is the 'Three Kick Rule'?"
Dick replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, I get to go first. I
kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back and forth
until someone gives up."
The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he
could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom.
Dick slowly climbed down from "Big Johnson" and walked up to the attorney.
His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel toed work boot into the
lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees.
His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal gushin’ from his
mouth.
The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear end, sent
him face first into a fresh cow pile.
The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet.
Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "O'kay, you old bastard.
Now it's my turn."
Dick smiled and said, "Nah, I give up. You can have the duck."
